The Little Seal: A Tale of Political Risk

By Kimberly Bloom Jackson

Sometimes you just have to give other creatures in nature credit for having more common sense than we do. A striking example of this was on display when a little gray seal desperately climbed aboard a nearby whale watching boat off the coast of Vancouver Island. Everyone on the boat was a bit shocked at the sight of their new passenger—and it was all captured on video!

Big Government Cronies vs American Citizens

So why on earth would this cute little critter risk it all by hitching a ride on a boat full of people? Instinct for survival.

You see, the little seal had just narrowly escaped a pod of 12 very hungry killer whales, that were now spouting water from their blowholes as they circled the very boat harboring the seal.

Of course, seals don’t go through life in denial. They know exactly what they need to do every day to survive—avoid being consumed by killer whales. Unfortunately, on this day, this little guy found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time, or maybe he was in the right place at the wrong time. After all, a boat was in reach and that gave him options—stay in the dangerous water or take a chance on something different by seeking refuge on a boat. Given the track record of killer whales, he probably figured he had nothing to lose.
